‘I come from such a dark place and such frequent wrestlings with that darkness, I was in my 40s before I began to even contemplate that not all my difficulties and sufferings were results of my sins & poor decisions. Every rough thing that happened I believed to my core I’d asked for. I’m watching some of the best people I know endure such a season of darkness they did not remotely ask for. Brokenhearted for them. My old reasoning wants to say, “My kind of people deserve this kind of stuff, not yours.” But that’s not the way this goes & I want you to know that.
Jesus said, “In this world you WILL have trouble. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Not you may. You WILL. For those of you like my friends, TAKE HEART. Lift your weary heads. Fellowship with Christ. For those like me, TAKE HEART. Not all your troubles are consequences. All of us will have seasons of suffering. The cross is no less powerful and Jesus no less merciful whether you’ve been exemplary or disastrous. He does not treat us as our sins deserve. (Ps. 103) Trust Him with your undeserved suffering. Trust Him when you’ve reaped the whirlwind.
Take heart. Jesus has overcome the world. And you, my friend, do not have enough darkness erupting from you or descending upon you on your blackest bleakest day to overcome His light.
This Winter will pass.
Spring will come.
We’re all gonna make it.’
