Growing up, you never think about the fact that one day, your mom and dad won’t be here. They should always just be here, right?!
Today, 7 years ago, my dad died. In my opinion, Dads should never die!
I miss him more than I have words for.
Can I give some advice/suggestions?
Tell your parents how much you love them. I know you have heard this before lots of times, but until something (or someone) is no longer, we just don’t understand how important they are to us. And yes, life gets in the way… and yes, we take things for granted, because we have no reason not to when things are moving along.
So today, because I no longer take my dad for granted even though he is not with us, I tell him, “Dad, I love you. Thank you for all you did for me. Thank you for working hard to provide for us as a family. Thank you for taking me to church. Thank you for my dog ‘Scamp’ that you gave me for graduating. Thank you for leaving a legacy of kindness, gentleness, caring, music and laughter!”
The goods news? I am going to see him again!
